Maple Grove Tranquil Retreat
Oakville Home Renovation
This beautiful, waterfront, 2-story townhouse in Oakville was purchased by the homeowners in 2023. Their objective in the purchase and renovation of this home was to gain a little more space in a tranquil place away from the city that reflected their personal style. High quality design and finishes, and consideration for safety and accessibility were the major drivers guiding this project from start to finish. Oriel worked with JLK Interiors to achieve a truly unique interior that delivered these project objectives and more.
The original builder grade cabinetry throughout the home lacked in quality and personality, so replacing this in the kitchen was an opportunity to look at the flow of the kitchen and dining area. Originally located in the rear of the home, we relocated the dining room to the front of the house and added a doorway through the kitchen into the dining area to connect the two. We added a full floor to ceiling wall of appliances and pantry, including a hidden coffee station, wine storage, and accessible motorized upper cabinet doors. The kitchen got a new range hood with custom millwork and quartzite cladding, and full quartzite slab backsplash and countertops. The dining room walls received custom mouldings and new lighting was selected and installed throughout the home. The central staircase got a modern update with new black metal pickets and a sinuous stained wooden railing snaking from the 2nd floor down to the basement.
The home’s bathrooms were updated to bring them up to the level of finish of the rest of the home and address some safety issues. The main floor Powder Room was updated from floor to ceiling, with a custom stone waterfall countertop and backsplash, specialty mural wallpaper, and new lighting and fixtures, upgrading it from builder basic to custom jewel box. The Primary Ensuite was redesigned with the clients’ lifestyle and safety in mind. The original curbless shower had polished porcelain tile floors, creating a major safety hazard! We removed and replaced those floors with a textured porcelain tile in a subtle grey-blue hue that references the colour and texture of Lake Ontario. This bathroom was updated into a calming oasis, and an extension of what we did in the primary bedroom.
Throughout the home, we added details and safety features to improve accessibility such as an elevator, integrated drywall staircase lighting, motion sensor lighting throughout the home, as well as thoughtful electrical features to hide cables and reduce tripping hazards.
